Building a Patio: Step By Step
Here’s what you need to do to build a patio with a cool corrugated metal roof:
Find the ideal material
It is important to find a material that matches your budget but that is also durable. You should go to different shops and analyze the prices until you find the best offers for what you need. Even if you have a plan, be prepared to change it.
Depending on the city you live in you might need a permit in order to build. If a permit is required, you need to go the agency and file the right paperwork. While some people say that you need to be a licensed contractor in order to get the permit that is not true.
In order to get the permit, you will need to take the plans to the licensing office and the town’s permit. After you fill some paperwork you will get a call and you can go pick up your permit and pay for it. In some cases, the plan might suffer some alternations.
Building the patio
First, you will need to install the ledger board, then dig up post holes. You can do that using an everyday shovel. After you dig the holes tamp down and compact the dirt at the bottom.
Next, assemble the frame. You can do that on ground and then raise it up. You might need to attach some prop sticks if you do not have any help. Attach the joists to secure the corners and you should be able to remove the props.
Now that you arranged the frame you have to pour the concrete. Make sure that the posts are perfectly straight before you add the concrete. Wait until the concrete sets. Before you start this project make sure that you check the weather. You wouldn’t want rain to destroy all your work.
Attach the boards on top and then add the metal roof to them. Finally it is time to attach the patio cover to the roof. You can use rubber washer metal-into-wood screws with ¼” bolt heads and used a ¼” magnetized drill adapted socket to put them in.
If you do come however to the conclusion that this home project is a bit too much for you, you can always find a team of specialists like Royal Covers. While making your own patio might be a way to save a bit of money, you will lose even more if you do not really know what you are doing.
